EXTENSION OF SPREADING PERIOD LOGICAL DECISION - IFA
|  | |  | | | IFA President Padraig Walshe has welcomed the announcement by Minister for Agriculture Brendan Smith to extend the fertiliser spreading period to Septmeber 28th as the logical response to the severe fodder shortage, which is being experienced on farms across the country. This extension will allow farmers spread fertiliser as soil conditions improve, rather than rushing to meet a date set out in the ridiculous calendar farming nitrates regime.

TAOISEACH AGREES TO EXAMINE IFA ALTERNATIVE PLAN TO BORD SNIP CUTS ON AGRICULTURE
|  | |  | | | Following a meeting with Taoiseach Brian Cowen in Athlone this afternoon, IFA President Padraig Walshe said the Taoiseach had agreed to examine closely the alternative IFA plan to the Bord Snip cuts. He said IFA has identified annual savings of 27%, or €439m, in the Net Department of Agriculture budget, which can be achieved between 2010 and 2012, while maintaining funding for all vital farm schemes.
